GLOBAL – Her hips (and hits) don’t lie. Shakira’s “Waka Waka” has been coined the most viewed viral video of 2010. Entering the airwaves and the internet as the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 teaser, “Waka Waka”’s African groove resounded as women and men tapped their feet and moved to the beat of 2010’s football anthem. The viral has had 275 million views and counting since its YouTube release in June 2010.

On Viral Ad Network’s Most Viral Brands of 2010, FIFA ranked number one followed by DC Shoes, Old Spice, Tipp-Ex, and Nike Football. Adding to the viral impact is the frequency of Facebook shares and re-posts, which is said to increase viral power three times more. According to Viral Ad Network, viral videos posted as part of a campaign proved to be more successful than one-offs.

On Twitter, Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” was hailed as the top brand. Nike Football closely followed with “Write the Future”. Sesame Street: Smell Like a Monster’s witty take on Old Spice’s “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” ranked third.  Who knew that a viral that was a parody of another viral would make waves, too?
